Alhamdulillah! On Thursday 5th February, Saudi Arabia have released two scholars from prison.
* Sheikh Aqeel al-Aqeel: Spent 6 years in prison. He is the former director of Al-Haramain foundation. He is accused of funding Al-Qaeda but in 2014 he was acquitted of all charges brought personally against him by the Riyadh Appeal court.
* Sheikh Abdul Rahman al-Sudais - Spent 12 years in prison . He is the cousin of the famous reciter and Imam of al-Haram. Before imprisonment he was the Imam of Masjid al-Furqan and he is a professor at Ummul al-Qurra University. He was arrested in 2003 after criticising the government in their terror raids around Makkah following the bombings in Riyadh. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, but the Saudi authorities refused to release him over the past two years despite the expiration of his sentence.
