Undercover policemen have hard-handedly arrested a Muslim girl aged 15 in The Hague without any allegations against her, and taken her to a police station for questioning.

Her house was raided as well and a phone and data storage devices were confiscated, tells her lawyer Michael Ruperti to the Dutch press agency the ANP. The prosecutor’s office in Rotterdam confirms the interrogation of the girl, the search at her house and that she was not suspected of anything.

“Absurd, all without any suspicion against her. Her hand was even badly bruised,” responds Ruperti.

“It seems like the policies against possible radical Muslims have been carried overboard.”

According to the prosecutor’s office the action was taken in an investigation into a potential “jihadist” (18) from Schiedam. He was arrested the same day, February 4th, because the justice department suspects that he wanted to join the armed struggle of the Islamic State in Syria or Iraq.

“Under certain circumstances, we can do searches at the premises of a witness,” said a spokeswoman of the prosecutor’s office. ”

On February 4th, my client left after a job interview and tried to call her mother. Out of nowhere, a man grabbed her phone and ran away with it. It was a policeman in civilian clothing” says Ruperti.

“Other policemen took her to the police station at the Hoefkade (in The Hague) and locked her up in a room. Investigators asked her why she was wearing a headscarf and all-covering clothes, whether she was radicalised and asked her about her contacts. She did not reply, because she wasn’t appointed a lawyer despite asking for one.”

Some interrogators made derogatory remarks about her appearance, clothing and religion, according to her lawyer.

Ruperti: “It later turned out that policemen forced the door of the house where she lives and took mobile phones, laptops, a camera and a USB stick. These items have still not been returned.”

Ruperti will file a report. He accuses the police and justice department of unlawful detention, abuse and insult.

“It is a violation of the rules and of the International Declaration of the Rights of the Child.”
