A 16-year-old Muslim teenager who has autism, Aleem Badali, was attacked by Islamophobes on Effingham Street in Rotherham town centre.
Police were called to Effingham Street at 1.10pm following reports a 16-year-old had been injured.
According to TellMama individuals stated that racially aggravated terms were used in the assault though this has yet to be confirmed with the police.
Witnesses also mentioned that tensions were heightened since it is alleged that it took about an hour and half for an ambulance to attend the scene.
A 32-year-old man was detained by officers and taken into custody.
A police spokeswoman said the severity of the boy’s injuries was not yet known.
Witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting incident 480 of September 9.
